VetFest 2025: Leahurst opens its doors for a free family fun day

The University of Liverpool’s Leahurst veterinary campus is opening its doors to all on Saturday 19 July 2025, from 10am to 4pm, for a free, action-packed day of family fun.

Held at Leahurst campus near Neston, Wirral, VetFest offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at one of the UK’s leading centres for veterinary education and animal care.

Visitors of all ages can explore the fascinating world of veterinary science, meet some of the campus’s animals, and learn more about the vital work carried out by the University’s School of Veterinary Science.

Event highlights include:

  • See some of Leahurst’s own farm animals
  • Displays from Merseyside Police Horses, farriers, and animal charities
  • Interactive games and hands-on activities for all ages
  • Dog competition – bring your furry friend and enter fun categories like Waggiest Tail
  • Talks from leading veterinary researchers and clinicians
  • Teddy Bear Clinic – children can bring their teddies for ‘surgery’ repairs
  • Tours of Leahurst’s state-of-the-art equine and small animal hospitals
  • Bouncy castle, food and drink vendors, and much more

Professor Paul Lunn, Dean of the School of Veterinary Science at the University of Liverpool, said: “We’re excited to welcome the community back to Leahurst for VetFest 2025. Last year, more than 3,000 people joined us for our first Open Day, and we’re looking forward to seeing familiar faces—and new ones—this summer.

“VetFest is a chance for visitors to experience the incredible work we do, meet our animals and team, and enjoy a day full of learning, fun, and inspiration. Whether you’re a budding veterinarian, a pet enthusiast, or just looking for a great family day out, there’s something for everyone.”

Leahurst VetFest Open House takes place at Leahurst Campus, School of Veterinary Science, University of Liverpool, Chester High Road, Neston, Liverpool CH64 7TE.

This event is free of charge, but registration is required – click here.
