Girl Profs

Only 31% of professors in the UK are women. Despite this number slowly rising over the last few years, the ‘leaky pipeline’ identified over 30 years ago still exists. A 2024 study carried out with academics in the Russell Group identified that it takes women 15 years longer than men to progress to a full professorship.

In this podcast we ask women who have built successful professorial careers to share their stories with us. We’d like to think that every academic has the opportunity to become a professor if that’s their ultimate aim, and these women’s stories offer both hope and practical advice and illustrate the unique nature of career paths as well as showcasing the brilliant work that senior women are doing in universities.
