Meet John Harrison — one of our incredible #Clas Meet John Harrison — one of our incredible #ClassOf2025 graduates, and one of the oldest to ever graduate from the University of Liverpool! 🎓

At 83 years old, John crossed the stage yesterday to receive his PhD in Architecture — exactly 60 years after completing his undergraduate degree here.

His academic journey has taken him across the globe. Drawing on a lifetime of experience documenting and conserving traditional Tibetan and Himalayan architecture, John’s PhD was rooted in extensive fieldwork in Nepal, India, and Tibet. 🌍

Originally from Preston, John returned to campus to complete his third degree, celebrating the achievement with friends and family in Liverpool. And he’s not stopping anytime soon — next up is a six-week work trip to the Himalayas, where he’ll mentor young Tibetan architects and help document ancient monasteries.

Congratulations John, you really are an inspiration to us all! 💙 #LivUniGrad #TeamLivUni

A look back in time... 📸✨ Last week, we cele A look back in time... 📸✨

Last week, we celebrated the official unveiling of the Redbrick Building after three years behind scaffolding, now we’re diving into the archives to reflect on its rich history.

Built in 1892 by Liverpool-born architect Alfred Waterhouse (who also designed London’s Natural History Museum), the building was purpose-built for University College Liverpool students. Its distinctive red brick and terracotta design didn’t just define our campus — it helped inspire the term ‘redbrick university’.

Over a century later, it’s still at the heart of university life. Restored in 2008 as part of Liverpool’s European Capital of Culture celebrations, it now welcomes over 62,000 visitors a year with an exciting mix of exhibitions and events.

And of course, it’s also a well-loved backdrop for graduation photos — just in time for next week’s celebrations! 🎓

Got a special Redbrick memory from your time with us? We’d love to hear it — share in the comments below 💙👇 #VGMRedbrickReborn
Amazing news! We’re celebrating a significant im Amazing news! We’re celebrating a significant improvement in this year’s National Student Survey, outperforming both the Russell Group and the wider higher education sector. 🙌

Over 4,300 students took part in the survey, which asks for feedback on their experience at university, including areas such as academic support and learning opportunities.

Thank you to our entire community for playing a part in this success — well done #TeamLivUni! 💙
